FAQ

Who can join the team?

Anyone with any skill level – from beginner to experienced. We will have K/2nd, 3rd/4th, 5th/6th, and 7th/8th youth teams in addition to high school JV and Varsity teams. While we are primarily aligned with Rockwall ISD and its two current high schools, we accept any player in Rockwall County, and any player who would play with us per Dallas Fort Worth Lacrosse League (DFWL) address boundary rules.

If my daughter has never played, can she try before joining?

We offer free beginner clinics where players may try the sport for free using just sticks and balls, and we offer summer camps which provide a more robust experience for interested players. We also encourage anyone wanting to try out the sport to come to a practice during the week, and see if they are interested.

What equipment do I need?

Players are responsible for their own equipment. You can expect to pay about $50-$100 for beginner gear, but they can likely use it for several years if they don’t outgrow it. We recommend starting with a lacrosse stick, mouthguard (required), eye protection (required) and balls for practice. Many players also choose to purchase a helmet for added protection. Equipment can be purchased locally at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Lacrosse Unlimited, Team LAX in Frisco or Play It Again Sports. For cleats, if there’s not a designated cleat for Lacrosse at Academy, you can buy soccer or football cleats but players may not wear metal cleats. New Balance in Rockwall does typically offer a small discount if you share that you are affiliated with Rockwall Lacrosse.

We do have a limited amount of player equipment available for loan during the season. Our player equipment loaner program is first come, first serve and may require a refundable deposit.

What registration is required?

You must register with USA Lacrosse in order to be eligible to play. The fee is $35 for a one year membership - www.usalacrosse.com. If you’re already registered, you do not have to reregister until your year is expired. (ex: if you currently play for another team). All you need to do is change your team to Rockwall Lacrosse.

Where can I purchase Spirit Wear?

Spirit wear can be purchased from one of our online stores when they are open. Online stores are typically set up at the beginning of each season and before Christmas. Check our website home page for links to the stores.

Why is this a club team and not offered through the district?

Lacrosse is not yet an official UIL sport in Texas. We have a strong relationship with the school district which results in use of the sports facilities for practices and games. We have access to Cain and Williams Middle School for practices, while we play our home games primarily at Cain Middle School.

Who will we play at games?

Other club and city sports teams, such as: Highland Park, Plano/Plano East/Plano West, McKinney, Episcopal School of Dallas, Frisco, Allen, Flower Mound, and Lovejoy amongst others.

When is Lacrosse season?

Lacrosse is played year round, but the official season is Spring – practices begin in January, games begin in February, and go through the end of April or early May. The Fall season begins in September and runs through the end of November.

Can players get hurt?

Yes, as in any sport. Lacrosse is a contact game, but more contact is seen at higher levels. Players must wear eye protection and a mouthguard any time they are on the field.
